Your ads didn't work. Was it the ads, the offer or the follow-up?
UPDATED 2026-11-04 · AP3 TECHNOLOGIES
Compare four counts from the same period: people who saw the ad, people who clicked, people who enquired, and people who bought. The step where the numbers fall off tells you whether to look at the ads, the offer or the follow-up first.
What to gather
- An export from the ad account for the period you ran ads
- Every inquiry you received, with its source and the time it arrived
- Who replied to each one and when
- What happened to each inquiry in the end
Read where the numbers fall off
| Where it falls off | It points to | Look at |
|---|---|---|
| Few clicks | The ads: creative, audience or placement | Who saw it and what they were asked to do |
| Clicks, few inquiries | The offer or the landing page | Whether the page says what you sell, to whom, and what to do next |
| Inquiries, few conversations | Follow-up | Reply speed and who owned each inquiry |
| Conversations, few sales | The sales conversation, price or proof | The reasons given for lost deals |
Signals that are not results
Likes, views and reach do not pay anyone. Judge ads by inquiries and sales, and by what each sale cost compared with what a customer is worth.
What to do with the answer
- If it was follow-up, more ads feed the leak. Fix the replies and ownership first.
- If it was the offer or page, change that and test again on a small budget.
- If it was the ads, change one thing at a time so you can tell what helped.
If the data is thin, treat any finding as a hypothesis to test, not a conclusion.
Questions
How much data do I need?
Enough inquiries to see a pattern. With very few, the finding is a guess worth testing, and it is better to say so than to act as if it were proven.
Should I stop the ads while I find out?
Pausing stops the spend and also the learning. A small, capped budget while you diagnose is often reasonable. Decide it against what one customer is worth to you.
Will AP3 guarantee the ads work next time?
No. We do not promise leads, sales or revenue. We agree what we will measure before spend begins.
