GTM engineer, SDR, agency or consultant: which do you need?

UPDATED 2026-11-04 · AP3 TECHNOLOGIES

SHORT ANSWER

Choose by what is missing. If you cannot tell where sales leak, you need advice first. If you know the ads are the problem, you need someone to run them. If outreach and follow-up are thin, you need a person working your leads and a system for them to work in.

The four options side by side

OptionWhat it doesWhat you still doBest when
Consultant or advisorFinds where it breaks and recommends what to doCarry out the recommendationsYou do not know where it breaks
AgencyRuns one channel, often adsSupply the offer and follow up the leadsThe channel is the known problem
SDR or BDRContacts prospects, follows up, books conversationsGive them a system, leads and directionYou have a process and need capacity
GTM engineerBuilds lead sourcing, CRM and data, automation and reportingSet priorities and give accessYou have people but weak systems

Why a GTM engineer and a BDR/SDR work better as a pair

An SDR without a system tends to drift into one-off tasks, and an engineer with nobody working the leads builds tools that sit unused. That is our reading, not a measured result. It is why AP3 sells them as one package: the engineer builds the system and the BDR or SDR works it.

How to choose

AP3 does not close deals. Qualified leads go to your dedicated closer.

Questions

What is a GTM engineer?

GTM means go-to-market. A GTM engineer builds and runs the systems behind sales and marketing: lead sourcing, outbound sequences, CRM and data, automation and reporting.

Why not hire one myself?

You can. The role is hard to hire and easy to under-use, and it needs someone to set the method and check the work.

Does AP3 do all four?

AP3 offers advisory, a GTM engineer with a BDR/SDR, and paid advertising. We are not an agency running every channel, and we advise on which you need.
